Why Did LG Electronics Introduce an AI Reskilling Program?

As AI technology spreads at a rapid pace, more and more companies are asking themselves: “Is there a way to upskill our current talent with AI capabilities, instead of hiring entirely new people?” Hiring new talent comes with risks in terms of time, cost, and organizational fit, whereas reskilling existing employees by adding the necessary skills can be a much faster and more efficient strategy.

Focusing on this point, LG Electronics introduced an AI reskilling program for its developers, who already possess software expertise, domain knowledge, and a deep understanding of the company’s own systems. And to embark on this journey, LG Electronics chose Elice as its partner.

Through LG Electronics’ case, you’ll see how Elice’s AI reskilling program is structured and what kind of impact and outcomes you can expect.

LG Electronics’ AI Reskilling Program Objectives

  • Design and apply AI models aligned with specific data and business objectives
  • Solve real business problems using machine learning and deep learning
  • Experience the end-to-end lifecycle of AI services, from planning to deployment

How Was the AI Reskilling Program Run?

Since the program was designed for employees with a strong understanding of development, the curriculum was built around hands-on practice. The focus was on “learning by doing,” so that participants could develop both problem-solving abilities and practical, real-world skills.

1. Preparation of a tailored curriculum

Online pre-learning and tests to assess participants’ skill levels
Creating an immersive learning environment with level‑appropriate, customized curricula

2. Hands-on, offline training

Experiencing the end-to-end AI workflow through direct coding
From data analysis and Kaggle competitions to a three-day PoC
Weekly progress assessments and review lectures

3. Close, learner-centered support

Operating small study groups in consideration of the 14‑week program duration
Systematic monitoring of achievement through learning tracking
Providing individual performance reports at the end of the course

4. Three-week intensive project and final presentation

Carrying out the full cycle from “planning → development → deployment” in teams over three weeks
Operating a dual mentoring system with AI faculty and dedicated mentors
Presenting in front of the faculty and LG executives, with a best team selected

At the final presentation, both technical completeness and business viability were evaluated, and the best team was selected based on tangible outcomes, which significantly increased internal buy‑in regarding the effectiveness of the program. In particular, Elice provided each team with high‑performance GPU resources (A100 80GB) on Elice Cloud, enabling participants to build programming skills at a level where they could implement and deploy real AI models.

How effective was the training?

A total of 13 AI projects were completed

  • 1st cohort – Best team: Designed an AI service that can be directly used in real development work
  • 2nd cohort – Best team: Built a generative AI–based system for personalized novel and video content creation
  • Other projects: Produced practical outcomes such as a Local Chatbot and a Private Home AI Agent that can be applied to real work right away

Expansion driven by surging demand

The program was initially planned for just one cohort, but due to higher‑than‑expected demand, it was expanded to three cohorts in total (as of May 2025).

Three key strengths of Elice’s AI reskilling program chosen by LG Electronics

Most participants previously worked in data science or software development roles. However, as AI technologies began spreading rapidly across industries, they felt the need to grow into talent equipped with AI capabilities and chose this reskilling program.

In response, Elice designed the training around three core elements: a curriculum optimized for real-world practice, continuous reflection of the latest technologies and industry needs, and a high-computing infrastructure that provides a robust environment for building production-level solutions.

1. A Curriculum That Can Be Applied to Real Work Right Away

Elice’s AI reskilling program is designed so that even non‑AI specialists can grow to a level where they can apply AI in their day‑to‑day work, covering everything from fundamentals to practical applications.

  • How to select and apply AI models that match specific data and business objectives
  • Problem‑solving–oriented machine learning and deep learning design
  • Practical application through hands-on exercises and projects

2. An Immersive Curriculum Reflecting the Latest Technologies and Industry Needs

Based on thorough pre‑program needs assessments and interviews, Elice delivered an immersive curriculum that covered both the essential AI skills needed to strengthen organizational competitiveness and the latest AI technologies. The program was tailored to the company’s work context and requirements so that learners could immediately apply what they learned on the job.

In particular, by:

  • Incorporating the latest LLM trends such as RAG and AI agents
  • Internalizing skills through project-based learning

the program earned very high satisfaction and positive feedback from participants.

“Learning machine learning and deep learning—and the many techniques for improving model performance—really highlighted the importance of data.
Experiencing cutting-edge technologies like LLMs and RAG also gave me a chance to think more deeply about how AI can be applied in practice.”

“I especially liked that we didn’t just ‘call existing models,’ but learned the fundamental principles and then went on to acquire the latest techniques and apply them to real projects.”

3. A Stable Learning Environment Powered by High-Performance GPUs

No matter how strong the curriculum is, it’s hard to achieve high satisfaction without a stable learning environment. In this program, Elice leveraged its own A100 GPU infrastructure on Elice Cloud to provide a smooth, reliable environment from hands-on exercises through to final projects.

  • Full access to A100 GPU resources on Elice Cloud
  • Both practice and projects conducted in high‑spec environments
  • Enabling AI development at near production-service level

Does your organization also need AI reskilling, like LG Electronics?

Practical AI skills can’t be built overnight. However, as LG Electronics’ case shows, when foundational learning is seamlessly connected to real-world practice—backed by stable infrastructure and a company-specific curriculum—anyone can grow into a truly AI-ready professional.
